Jill Painter grew up in Southern California in a family of artists that included her engineer father, talented sister, and nurturing Mom. School years were spent in Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo. After many years of employment as a retail clothing buyer, Jill moved to Hawaii in 1977. The inspiring environment of Hawaii and Maui awakened Jillʻs creativity, which led to classes at the Lahaina Arts Society and Hui Noʻeau Visual Arts Center in many media. In 1979 she began painting watercolors and then applying fabric paint to hats and clothing. The idea that someone could wear art...that what they were wearing was one-of-a-kind, not to be found elsewhere, moved Jill to open a cart in the Lahaina Market Place off of Front St. in Lahaina in 1979. A couple of stores, cruise ships and many studios later, Jill is still painting. There have been a lot of shirts, hats, tees and painting of all sorts created in the ensuing years; worn and enjoyed by customers world wide.
